WEATHERFORD – Brek Galbreath and the Oklahoma Baptist defense shut down the Great American Conference's top offense in Southwestern Oklahoma State during a 5-0 win on Friday. The win improved OBU's record to 19-15 and 11-11 in the GAC.
It was just the second time this season that the Bulldogs (19-17, 11-11 GAC) were shut out.
Galbreath (5-3) allowed just three hits to SWOSU, the GAC's leader in batting average (.331) and runs scored (321). He also fanned seven batters and allowed just one Bulldog to reach scoring position.
With Galbreath shutting down SWOSU, the Bison offense was able to come through in a trio of innings.
Second-inning action brought two runs scored by
Troy Shields and
Trey Furrey. Both were walked to start the frame and after two errors by the hosts, they scored the Bison's runs.
Three frames later in the fifth, the green and gold doubled their lead.
Kade Self and
Alex Schroeder had back-to-back hits, the latter of which was a double to put those Bison in scoring position. What followed was a passed ball allowing Self to score and an RBI single from Furrey plating Schroeder.
In the eighth, Schroeder added a run-scoring single up the middle which scored
Isiah Lissade.
OBU iced the game in the ninth with a three-up, three-down outing from
Nolan Feazle. It marked the Bison's first shutout win since March 4 at Northwestern Oklahoma State (3-0).
Tomorrow, the Bison and Bulldogs will play a doubleheader starting at noon.
