ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Adi Reese was perfect in the batter's box (3-3) during Oklahoma Baptist's 7-2 win at Henderson State on Sunday. OBU improved to 40-9 overall, 25-5 in the Great American Conference and won for the 14th straight time, tying the school's all-time record set in 1992.
With the GAC results this weekend, another series win next week against Arkansas Tech would allow the Bison to claim the GAC Regular Season Championship. That would be a program-first. Location of that series versus ATU will be announced in the coming days.
On Sunday, Henderson got the first lead of the contest following a hit and outfield error in the first. However, that would be a short-lived advantage thanks to Reese.
In the second, OBU's second baseman rocked a 3-2 pitch to center field and scored
Kennedy Clark. That was Reese's team-leading eighth homer of the season. The Bison then added another run, this one a two-out RBI single from
Emily Adler.
With a 3-1 lead,
Kayleigh Jones went to work against Henderson. From the bottom of the second to the end of the fifth, no Reddie reached scoring position. Jones struck out five in that time.
OBU held its two-run advantage all the way until the fifth when it scored four times on four hits. The Bison got a Reese RBI double down the left-field line while also tallying two runs via error. The fourth and final run of the fifth came after
Samantha Campos drove in
Shelby Warden on a groundout.
Henderson did get a little movement offensively in the seventh but ended up scoring just one to get the final margin.
Jones tossed five frames with five strikeouts and 10 combined groundouts and fly-ball outs while
Morgan Max pitched the last two innings. Max struck out three, allowed that one Henderson run and induced a pair of fly-ball outs.
