SEMINOLE – Oklahoma Baptist (25-17, 15-13 GAC) turned Seminole State College's Crawford Memorial Sports Complex into its own on Friday night with a big, 14-4 win against Henderson State (26-18, 17-11 GAC).
OBU's victory kept the team in sixth place in the Great American Conference standings with five league games remaining as well.
There were two innings in which the green and gold scored. And in each of the second and sixth frames, they scored a whopping seven runs.
In the second, the Bison bats generated three homers. Down 1-0,
Troy Shields rocked a shot over the center-field wall and pushed teammate
Alex Schroeder across. Then, senior
Trey Furrey got in the action with a solo bomb to left. OBU's big inning was finally capped off with a
Dan Pruitt long ball.
Pruitt's shot to right center kept sailing and eventually left the park. That was his team-leading 18th homer of the year, and it made the score 7-1.
Henderson only got ahold of Bison starting pitcher
Brek Galbreath once during the run-rule shortened game and that came in the fifth. Greyson Stevens' hit to the center-field wall pushed two across to bring the tally to 7-3. After that, though, the Reddies would plate just one more.
Galbreath ended up tossing a complete game with seven strikeouts and four earned runs.
As for OBU's sixth inning, there were a few walks and back-to-back, hit-by-pitches that led to Henderson's demise. Helping cash in on those mistakes were hits by
Jose Parga and
Austin Gonzales. They each drove in two with a single and double, respectively.
Tomorrow, the two teams will meet again starting at 1 p.m. for a GAC doubleheader.
