SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's track and field team impressed at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., and at the Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla., over the weekend.
Kayla McGruder and Sophia Strange made the long haul to California to post multiple personal-bests.
McGruder placed 135th in the 1500m in 4:39.48 before crossing 98th overall in the 3000m steeplechase (35:44.48) among elite Division I talent.
Strange clocked a 35:44.48 to place 15th in the 10k and earn an NCAA DII provisional mark. She also competed in the 1500m, finishing the race in 4:52.32.
At the Sooner Invitational, Kimberly McKinney led the Bison in the 400m with a personal-best time of 57.77, placing 15th. It is the fastest time in the event for OBU this season.
In the 800m, Kaylen King finished 13th in 2:21.42, while Kyndall Hicks claimed fifth in the 100m hurdles. Hicks ran a 15.03 in the event, a personal record.
Mary McKey and Tahlor Brown recorded NCAA qualifying marks in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:00.83 and 1:02.00. McKey crossed in fourth, while Brown's personal-best time placed sixth.
In the jumping events, Jamora Horace placed fourth (1.53m, 5-0.25) in the high jump, while Anisha Henderson leaped 19.87m (35-8) in the triple to finish seventh.
Emily Julian cleared 3.80m (12-5.5) in the pole vault, good for fifth place, while Flora Dupans' 45.75m (150-1) heave in the discus placed ninth overall. Dupans' mark met the NCAA provisional standard and is the 16th-best throw in Division II.
Kamdyn Moody and Zoee Weaver wrapped up the notables with eighth and 10th-place finishes in the heptathlon. Moody racked up 4,322, while Weaver accumulated 4,105 over seven events.
Oklahoma Baptist returns to Norman next weekend, April 21-22, for the John Jacobs Invitational.
