OBU Hangs Thirty on East Central

SHAWNEE – Offense was aplenty as Oklahoma Baptist won 30-17 over East Central on Friday night. The 30 runs scored tied a Great American Conference single-game record and was the most by a Bison team in the D2 era.

Furthermore, the last time OBU scored 30 runs was during the 1983 season when the program won 30-8 against Langston.

Kade Self led the green and gold with a 5-for-6 effort and six RBI. Troy Shields continued his standout play going 4-for-4 with five runs batted in while Isiah Lissade, Dan Pruitt and Alex Schroeder each contributed multiple hits and multiple RBI.

By game's end, the Bison had 30 runs batted in, the most by a Bison team in a D2-era game.

After falling behind 3-0 heading to the bottom of the first, OBU unleashed with 13 runs. There were eight hits that frame including a Self triple and homer. The latter of those hits drove in two and made the tally 11-3. The Bison also got a bases-clearing double by Jayden Shafer and a pair of two-run hits from Shields and Austin Gonzales. After one, it was 13-3.

East Central did have some offensive moments, too, including in the second when it scored three. Duncan Key drove in two with a single to center and made the score 13-5.

However, it was the Bison's offense that stole the night.

Heading to the bottom of the third, OBU scored nine more and made the scoreboard 25-7. Pruitt notched a two-run double while Shields drove in two with a single. Plus, Lissade and Trey Furrey drew bases-loaded walks while Self and Jose Parga had one-run singles. In the third, OBU scored nine on six hits.

OBU concluded its high-scoring night with five more runs in the fifth. Schroeder highlighted that frame with a two-run single.

Tomorrow the two teams will meet at 1 p.m. for a conference doubleheader.
