ADA – Oklahoma Baptist led throughout and ended up earning an 8-3 win at East Central on Tuesday afternoon at Ken Turner Field. The Bison improved to 13-8 with the result and defeated ECU for the 23rd straight contest dating back to April of 2017.
The green and gold's
Kade Self, the reigning GAC Player of the Week, started things off the right way with a two-run double in the first which allowed teammates
Isiah Lissade and
Alex Schroeder to round home.
Two frames later, third baseman
Trey Furrey did the same. His single to center doubled up the Bison lead to 4-0 as he watched Self and Schroeder score those runs.
On the mound,
Nolan Feazle (2-0) was highly effective as the Bison got ahead. In five innings pitched, he gave up just one run, induced a combined 12 groundouts and fly-ball outs and fanned two. Plus, ECU only got two hits against OBU's junior pitcher.
After Feazle, the Bison staff of
Logan Kimbro,
Will Duncan and
Garrett Kellogg-Clarke allowed just two more ECU runs with three hits.
Of note, OBU's staff during this six-game winning streak has produced a team ERA of 2.81.
Late in the game, and nursing a 5-2 advantage, the green and gold pulled away with three runs in the ninth. That inning was highlighted by a two-run homer by
Dan Pruitt which also scored Lissade.
Bottom of the ninth action saw the hosts load the bases, however, a 6-4-3 double play was turned by Parga,
Jayden Shafer and Pruitt to end the game.
Next on the schedule for OBU is a three-game home series against Arkansas-Monticello scheduled to start March 17 at 6 p.m.
