Bison Split Day with Savage Storm

DURANT, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist (20-6, 7-3 GAC) shutout Southeastern Oklahoma State (12-12, 6-2 GAC) 7-0 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader before falling 5-3 in the finale to split the opening day of its three-game series with the Savage Storm.

GAME ONE

Dominating performances inside the circle and at the plate produced OBU's seventh shutout of the season in game one. The Bison charted seven runs on 11 hits with just one error, while Southeastern committed three miscues and tallied six hits.

Two Bison, Emily Adler and Adi Reese, went 3-for-3 in the batter's box. It was Adler's third game with at least three hits and the first of the season for Reese.

Five others, including sophomore outfielder Sammie Greene, registered a hit. Greene returned to the lineup to produce her second-career home run after not playing since Feb. 18 due to injury. Shelby Warden also recorded her second-career homer, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate with a couple of RBIs.

Kayleigh Jones picked up her 15th win of the season after producing a seven-inning shutout and striking out 12 batters. It was Jones' fifth shutout of the year.

OBU failed to capitalize through the first two innings after charting a couple of hits and leaving three on base. That changed in the third as an E. Adler single into left center sent across Reagan Ford for the game's first score. A couple of batters later, Kennedy Clark brought in the second run to put the Bison ahead 2-0.

Then, in the fourth, Oklahoma Baptist erupted for three more on a Greene two-run shot and a Morgan Max double into left field. At the bottom of the frame, Jones made quick work of the Savage Storm with two strikeouts and a forced fly-out.

The Bison remained hot in the fifth, collecting two more scores on a moonshot from Warden.

The deficit proved too deep for SE, who couldn't manage a run in the last two frames. Their downfalls earned OBU its 20th win of the season.

GAME TWO

Emily Adler got Oklahoma Baptist started quickly in the first inning of game two, ripping off a single into right field to put the green and gold ahead 1-0.

Southeastern responded in the bottom of the next frame, scoring its first run of the day on a walk. Then the Bison retaliated in the third as Morgan Max brought two around on a double down the right field line.

It would be the last of OBU's good fortune as the Savage Storm charted four more scores before blanking the Bison in the remaining innings.

Max led Oklahoma Baptist at the plate with two hits in three at-bats and two RBIs. Four others, including E. Adler, notched a hit to wrap up the notables.

Three Bison entered the circle, starting with Jaycee Shaffer, who struck out three in 2.0 innings of work before being relieved by Morgan Max. Max collected four strikeouts in the next 2.0 innings and gave up one run ahead of Aspen Younce fanning three in the last couple of frames.

Oklahoma Baptists returns tomorrow for the series finale, set to begin at 1 p.m.
