DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State (13-12, 7-2 GAC) limited Oklahoma Baptist to its fewest hits this season in a 3-0 series finale victory in Durant. It was just the second time the Bison had been held scoreless since a late February loss to Harding and the first time SE has restricted OBU to zero runs since 2019.
The loss moves Oklahoma Baptist to a 20-6 overall record with a 7-4 mark in Great American Conference play.
Southeastern's Reese Taylor produced a three-hit complete game and struck out five Bison while Kayleigh Jones (15-3) suffered her third loss of the season after tossing 5.1 innings. Jones fanned four and gave up two scores before Aspen Younce entered late, giving up one run in 0.2 innings of relief work.
Gwyn Miller led the Bison offensively with a 2-for-2 showing at the plate, featuring a double and a single. It was her first two-hit game of the season. Leadoff hitter Reagan Ford registered OBU's third hit, finishing 1-for-3 inside the box.
The Savage Storm broke the seal of the contest in the inaugural inning, courtesy of a Kady Fryear two-out RBI single, to go ahead 1-0.
The tally wouldn't budge until the sixth inning when SE tacked on a couple more. Oklahoma Baptist recorded a hit during the silent stretch and left three on base. The hit, a Miller two-bagger in the fifth, resulted in nothing as Southeastern struck out the next batter before forcing a ground-out to retire the Bison.
Furthermore, in the sixth, OBU had a runner in scoring position with two outs after a fielder's choice put Adi Reese on third. But the SE defense tightened as a strikeout shut down the hopes of evening the count.
A last cry in the seventh, a single from Miller, turned into a double play before a final strikeout cemented the Southeastern win.
Oklahoma Baptist will have a day of rest before beginning a seven-game road trip, starting with a doubleheader with Southwest Baptist on Tuesday, March 14. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Bolivar, Missouri.
