Galbreath, Bison Shut Down Southeastern

SHAWNEE – Brek Galbreath retired 20 of the 27 batters he faced during Oklahoma Baptist's 4-1 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday in Great American Conference play.

OBU improved to 10-8 and 5-5 in the GAC while SE moved its record to 11-10 and 4-6.

Galbreath tossed 104 pitches during seven innings of work and fanned a season-high seven batters. He also induced a combined 13 groundouts and fly-ball outs and allowed a season-low three hits.

After Southeastern got the first lead with a run and two hits in the first, Galbreath got in gear against the Savage Storm's offense.

From the second through the seventh frames, Galbreath (3-2) allowed just one hit. That came in the fourth on a double by Seth Murrow. Outside of that, Galbreath retired the side in four of the next six innings.

In that time, the Bison offense got ahead. Second-inning action saw Gabe Irwin start a two-out rally with a single. Then in the next at-bat, Brandow Brewer, playing for the first time in a few weeks, came through with a double to the right-center gap. That pushed the tying run across.

A frame later, OBU added two more. Isiah Lissade was driven home with a single by newcomer Jayden Shafer before a sacrifice fly from junior Alex Schroeder pushed Shafer home.

With the scoreboard at 3-1, the Bison got their final run in the fifth. A double by Dan Pruitt, followed by back-to-back wild pitches allowed OBU's senior first baseman to score.

Leading by three, OBU turned to its defense in the final three innings. The Bison converted three double plays, one each in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames, to aid in its win. Logan Kimbro then relieved Galbreath in the eighth and allowed just one hit. He'd go on to earn his first save as a Bison.

Tomorrow, the two teams will meet at noon for a doubleheader.
