SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist's defense was outstanding and paired with a double-double from freshman
Jaedyn Getman, the Bison crushed East Central on Saturday, winning its regular-season finale 70-51 at the Noble Complex.
The Bison improved to 16-12 and clinched the No. 5 seed in next week's GAC Tournament. Next Friday, March 3 at noon, OBU will face No. 4 seed Arkansas Tech in the quarterfinal round at nearby FireLake Arena.
The blowout victory was the final home game for seniors
Madison Chambers,
Melissa Southard and Savanna. Chambers notched 12 points and seven rebounds while Southard tallied eights points and six rebounds. For Savanna, she registered three points, four rebounds and four assists.
On this night, OBU held the Tigers to 27.1 percent shooting, its second-lowest mark this year. Over the course of the four quarters, the best percentage ECU produced was 33.3.
First-quarter action was outstanding for OBU as it hit 50 percent from the field and 57 from three. Following two early free throws by the visitors, the Bison reeled off 10 straight to sieze a 12-4 lead. Chambers and Savanna each provided threes while Getman and
Jill Leslie scored the other buckets.
By the end of the first, OBU led by ten, 22-12, following a three-ball from
Faith Wright. The Bison made 4-of-7 from deep in the opening quarter.
Nearly five minutes into the second, the Bison's lead ballooned to 17 points. An and-one conversion by Getman moved the scoreboard to 32-15 with 5:35 left until half. ECU was 1-for-7 in that stretch that produced that massive OBU advantage. By half, it was 38-23 Bison after a last-second jumper by Getman.
In the third, the Bison held ECU to just eight points and 17-percent shooting. OBU led by as many as 24 points, 50-26, in the quarter after a jumper from
Sydney Duncan at 2:59.
OBU also got contributions from Leslie who tallied seven points and eight boards while
Kayla Highfill hit 5-of-6 from the foul line.
