Wonder Boys Take GAC Opener over OBU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Behind the arm of John Gray, Arkansas Tech got out to a 4-0 lead through three innings and ended up earning a 10-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday. ATU improved to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the GAC. For the Bison, they dipped to 3-4 and 0-1 in the conference.

Tomorrow, the two teams will meet at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.

Gray started the game retiring all six Bison batters, five by strikeout. That helped ATU get out to a 1-0 lead after two frames. In the bottom of the second, two-out hits from Markos Cabranes and Shane Poe broke the scoreless tie.

Newcomer Austin Albright provided the one base hit, in the top of the third, for the green and gold before ATU extended its lead to 4-0.

In the home half of the third, a wild pitch opened up a three-run inning. Nick Jones and Cade McBride moved into scoring position before the next two ATU batters – Logan Schwenke and Keaton Ranallo – singled and doubled to provide three more runs for the hosts.

Back on the mound, Gray never allowed OBU to get into any rhythm. In fact, the Bison only registered four hits, a season-low. Two went to Jayden Shafer while Albright and Kade Self got the others.

For the Bison, Brek Galbreath went six innings, induced a combined 14 fly-ball and groundouts while fanning two Wonder Boys batters.
