SHAWNEE – Harding held Oklahoma Baptist to 21 percent shooting in the second half during a 66-47 win at the Noble Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The green and gold dropped their fourth straight game and fell to 13-10 and 9-8 in the Great American Conference. For Harding, it improved to 18-6 and 14-3 in the league.
Senior
Madison Chambers scored 15 points to lead OBU while
Kennedy Large added 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds and collected two steals. After that,
Jaedyn Getman and
Melissa Southard scored eight and six points, respectively.
The Bison's three-point shooting kept the first half very competitive as they hit 6-of-11. In the first quarter, OBU hit three from deep.
Large started the contest with a right-wing three before Southard closed the quarter with back-to-back deep shots. By the end of the first, Harding led 18-13.
A quarter later, the Lady Bisons would extend their lead to as many as 12 points after an Aubrey Isbell layup at the 2:30 mark. But down the stretch, Chambers scored five while Getman added a jumper and the home squad found themselves down six, 33-27, at the break. The Bison did a decent job in the quarter on offense, hitting 46.1 percent.
Second-half action was a different story, though. Harding clamped down on OBU by not giving up a three-point make in six tries. They also only allowed the Bison to score 20 total points in the final quarters.
With that, Harding was able to pull away. Sage Hawley scored 14 of her game-high 27 points in the second stanza as the Lady Bisons hit 45 percent from the field.
In the third leading 35-29, a 10-2 stretch allowed the visitors to seize command. Rory Geer had four of those 10 points while Hawley had the rest. By the 4:04 mark, HU led 45-31 and they would remain in front by double-digits the rest of the way.
Next on the schedule for the Bison is a road date on Feb. 13 at first-place Southern Nazarene. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
