DURANT, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist (5-4, 2-1 GAC) suffered its first conference loss at the hands of Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon, falling 92-87 to the Savage Storm (6-5, 2-1 GAC) inside Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
OBU put on its best shooting day all season, firing 59.0 percent from the field to go along with a 44.4 percent clip from behind the arc. Conversely, Southeastern paired a 50.0 percent field goal mark with an 11-for-26 (42.3%) outing from range.
Despite a 44-all tie at intermission, the Savage Storm built a significant lead while holding off a late Bison comeback for the victory.
LEADERS
Terry Coner Jr. posted his eighth double-digit game of the season, scoring 18 points on 53.8 percent (7-of-13) shooting in 21 minutes off the bench. He also knocked down a season-high total from three-point range, netting 4-of-6 attempts.
Trevin Wade turned in his second straight 15-point performance, nearly grasping a double-double with nine assists (season-high). Wade went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line and added five rebounds to his stat sheet. Furthermore, he collected two steals (matches a season-high).
Ricky Brown posted 12 points, four assists, and one rebound in 33 minutes. He knocked down two three-pointers, his third consecutive game with at least two makes from range.
Joshua Udoumoh rounded out OBU's double-digit scorers, finishing with 11 points. Udoumoh fired 5-of-6 from the floor, his best shooting outing this year. He cashed in his only three-point attempt and pulled down two rebounds.
FIRST HALF
Oklahoma Baptist shot out to a six-point lead three minutes into the game, 9-3, courtesy of a Daniel Ransom layup. The Savage Storm battled back and tied the contest at 13-all midway through the opening stanza.
The clubs traded leads three times down the stretch, each going ahead by as much as five points. With 25 seconds left and the game tied at 42, a successful layup from Efe Sekeroglu put the Bison ahead 44-42.
On the next possession, Southeastern's Jett Sternberger put in a last-second layup to knot the game at 44-all going into the break.
SECOND HALF
Brown knocked a three-pointer to break the second-half seal and give OBU the advantage. However, Southeastern came roaring back and reclaimed the lead. But again, the momentum didn't faze the green and gold.
Oklahoma Baptist took back the reins a few minutes later and sustained the lead until a layup from Robert Briley sparked an 18-7 run that left OBU down by 11 points with four minutes left. Despite 10 points from Coner Jr. the rest of the way, the Savage Storm stayed in front to notch the win.
NOTES
- Four Bison reached double figures in points for the fifth time this season.
- The Bison dominated SE in the painted area, boasting a 48-34 point advantage, while the reserves out-scored Southeastern's bench 40-21.
- Oklahoma Baptist knocked down eight three-pointers for the fourth time this season.
- OBU won the rebound margin for the fourth consecutive game.
