ALVA – Northwestern Oklahoma State (8-0, 2-0 GAC) used its top-10 NCAA scoring offense to defeat Oklahoma Baptist (3-5, 0-2 GAC) on Saturday, winning 91-70 at Percefull Fieldhouse.
The Rangers' victory over the Bison was their first over OBU in Alva since Jan. 9, 2021.
Key Leaders
- Jaedyn Getman led four players in double-figure scoring with 17 points. She made three 3-pointers as well.
- Catyn Graham scored 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown. Graham started the game 4-for-4 from deep. Just one other freshman in OBU's D2 history has done that: Faith Wright.
- Wright also added 12 points and dished out a career-high four assists.
- In 10 minutes of action, Parker Stevenson scored 11 points on a trio of three-balls and made two free throws.
- Kennedy Large and Sierra Copeland each pulled down a team-high six boards.
What Went Right
- Shaking off a slow start. Within five minutes of the first, the Bison were down 15-4. They closed with an 18-11 run and pulled the score to 26-22. Graham had half of those points (9) while Stevenson added five. Getman and Sydney Duncan also scored in the final 20 seconds of the first.
- Three-point shooting. The Bison made a season-high 14 three-pointers. Graham led with four deep shots while Getman, Wright and Stevenson added three each.
- For the fifth time in eight games, the green and gold notched double-digit steals. They recorded 12 and that helped the team hold a 24-18 points-off-turnovers advantage.
What Went Wrong
- Not many teams have slowed down Northwestern so far this season and Saturday was no different. By halftime, the Rangers had a 46-27 lead and shot 57 percent from the field. They also made 46 percent from three and all eight of their free throws.
- Northwestern got that 19-point halftime lead after the Bison scored just five points in the second. After Large's jumper brought the tally to 35-27 with 6:18 on the clock, OBU never scored again. It missed all 10 of its shots and turned the ball over four times.
- Third-quarter defense. OBU's offense was outstanding that period as it scored 28 points, but the Bison defense allowed Northwestern to hit 50 percent. That kept the Rangers up double digits throughout.
On The Horizon
- Next on the schedule for the Bison is another road date on Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. against Southeastern Oklahoma State (4-4, 0-2 GAC).
