SHAWNEE – Wednesday night's affair between rivals Oklahoma Baptist and Southwestern Oklahoma State was another close one in the series. A little over a month ago, the Bison won 1-0 in Weatherford. However, on this occasion, the Bulldogs prevailed 1-0.
Despite the loss, OBU still controls its own destiny and can clinch the Great American Conference regular season crown with a win on Nov. 4 when it hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State at 3 p.m.
Key Leaders
What Went Right
- Through the first 26 minutes, it was the Bison controlling possession.
- Bloomingdale got a good look in the 10th minute off the right post before Swaner's attempt at 25:28 hit the top crossbar.
- OBU also saw freshmen Lex Williamson and Hali White get in on the offensive attack between the attempts by Bloomingdale and Swaner.
- In the second half, Ziesemer was extremely close to two goals. In the 70th minute, she made a smart play by heading the ball away from the defense, corralling it, and then shooting on SWOSU keeper Amelia Forsling. That attempt was stopped, though.
- Then in the final three minutes, she just miss-hit a one-timer off the left post which resulted in a goal kick by Forsling.
What Went Wrong
- SWOSU's lone score came after the Bison back line collided with de Sancy near the 18. Defender Julie Andersen sent a ball from near midfield and watched as de Sancy picked it up behind the defense. She was then fouled and in the ensuing sequence, scored on a free kick to the upper-middle of the net.
- After the opening 26 minutes of match time, the Bison just didn't connect well enough after a good start offensively. They had their chances though in the second half from Ziesemer as well as Krissy Fulton but ended up being shut out for the first time in four matches.
On The Horizon
- The Bison will look to get back in the win column when Northwestern comes to town on Nov. 4. In the previous matchup with the Rangers, OBU held a 24-6 shots advantage but ended up with a 0-0 draw.
