STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist took on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in an exhibition to open its 2023 campaign on Wednesday night inside the Gallagher-Iba arena. Unfortunately, a slow start put the Bison behind early, and they fell 95-53.
OSU suffocated the OBU offense, holding the green and gold to just 27.3 percent shooting while they finished at a 56.3 percent clip from the floor.
Oklahoma Baptist struggled from behind the arc, too, as only three of their 19 attempts hit the bottom of the net. Conversely, the Cowboys weren't much better. They sunk 8-of-25 from range.
Despite their shortcomings, OBU pulled down 40 rebounds, seven less than Oklahoma State. The Bison even poked away five steals, but OSU's dominance in the painted area (60-28) overshadowed OBU's positives.
Graduate transfer Trevin Wade led Oklahoma Baptist with team highs in points (12) and assists (2). Ricky Brown registered six points, while Ransom matched the scoring total with four boards.
Freshman TJ Strong brought down six boards to go along with three points, while Legend Barrett recorded five rebounds on his stat sheet.
Other notables included five points from Ethan Scott and four points from Joshua Udoumoh.
Oklahoma Baptist will officially start its schedule next weekend as hosts of the GAC/NSIC Conference Challenge. OBU is set to play Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota-Crookston inside the Noble Complex.
