GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Sophia Strange paced Oklahoma Baptist to a second place finish at the DBU Old Glory Gallop after placing second, individually, among 287 participants on Saturday.
The Bison scored 97 points in the 5k event with finishes of 2-18-24-26-27, while host Dallas Baptist claimed first place with 34 points. OBU topped GAC foes East Central (100) and Harding (137), who finished in third and fourth, respectively.
Strange crossed the finish line with a personal best time of 17:27.5, 5.4 seconds behind the tournament's victor, Leslie Salas (DBU).
Finishing next for Oklahoma Baptist was freshman Mekenzie Connell, who clocked a personal best mark of 18:20.8 for 18th place. Behind her was Olivia Lynch's PR of 18:34.9, which was good for 24th. Closing out the scoring was Shayna Hendrix (26th) and Jade Robinson (27th), whose finishes of 18:38.9 and 18:40.7 were also career-bests.
Kaylen King crossed seconds later at 30th with a personal best mark of 18:44.6, while Jadyn Pavlik placed 30th in 18:50.3. McKayla Schmitt rounded out the Bison in the top 50 at 45th, running a time of 18:54.3.
The remaining OBU participants were the following: Zoee Weaver (76th, 19:33.1), Lauren Crouch (81st, 19:36.4), and Zoe Strange (97th, 19:52.1).
Oklahoma Baptist will return to action for the GAC Championship in Russellville, Ark. on Oct. 21.
