RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist cross country standouts Sophia Strange and Maxamillian Wheeler have been tabbed the GAC's Runners of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
It is the second time the duo has swept the weekly accolade this season. For Strange, it is the third honor this season and the second for Wheeler. No other school in the conference has claimed the award as many times as the Bison thus far.
Strange posted a season-best time in the 5k (17:48.2) to place 28th, finishing as the top Division II participant of 297 runners at the Chile Pepper Festival last weekend. Furthermore, it was the second-fastest time of her career in the event.
Wheeler led the green and gold at 50th place in the 8k, crossing the finish line in 25:21.2. It was the second-best time in the event for the senior this season and the fastest of any participating GAC athlete.
The men's and women's squads return to the course this Saturday, Oct. 7 at the DBU Old Glory Gallop in Dallas, Texas.
