Bison Deliver Another Shutout Victory

SHAWNEE – With goals by Sophia Ziesemer and Krissy Fulton, and another standout defensive performance, Oklahoma Baptist defeated East Central 2-0 on Wednesday in Great American Conference action.

OBU improved to 5-7-2 overall and 4-2-2 in GAC play. The victory secured three points in the conference standings for the green and gold who now only trail Ouachita (7-1-6, 4-1-3 GAC) by one point.

Key Leaders
  • Ziesemer tallied one goal and one assist in 31 minutes of action.
  • Fulton's goal in the 76th minute was her first of her career.
  • Senior Alanna Bloomingdale tied for the match-high with three shots.
  • Mia Pendleton recorded four saves in the win. She has also not conceded a goal in the last 287 minutes of game time.
  • The OBU back line of Anna Branham, Michaela White, Brae Baker and Asley Baker was sensational again as the Tigers tallied four shots on goal.
What Went Right
  • For the fourth time in the last five matches, OBU's defense locked down an opponent.
  • While East Central attempted nine shots, only one of those, a shot by Paige Jones in the 84th minute, really threatened the hosts.
  • Defending corner kicks. ECU held a 4-1 lead at one point in corners. Despite that, the Bison never gave up a solid shot and cleared most of them away.
  • Ziesemer's goal in the 41st minute came after she cleaned up a rebounded shot from the left side by White.
  • As for Fulton's score, the sophomore picked up a pass from Ziesemer, dribbled to near the 18, and booted the ball past a frozen-footed McKenna Leveling into the upper-left corner.
  • Holding the lead. During the Sept. 27 road match at ECU, the Bison also gained a 2-0 advantage. However, they ended up allowing the Tigers to tie. Not this time around though.
  • OBU's aggressive style of play helped turn the ball over into its favor numerous times.
What Went Wrong
  • There were a handful of minutes in both halves that saw OBU, and ECU as well, unable to connect enough passes to threaten in the final third.
  • While it didn't ultimately matter after 90 minutes, the Bison did concede too many corners to East Central. By game's end, ECU had five, tying the most allowed in GAC play by the Bison.
On The Horizon
  • The Bison are off for the weekend and will return to action on Oct. 25 at Harding.
