RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist guard Paul King has been named the GAC Player of the Week after leading OBU to a 2-0 record last week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second time King has received the weekly accolade this season.
King poured in 43 total points in OBU's wins over Harding (64-62) and Arkansas Tech (77-74), improving the squad to a 6-2 record in league play. He netted 54.5% of his field goal attempts while leading the team in assists (7) and steals (6).
The sophomore averaged 21.5 ppg, including a week-high 22 points against HU. King shot 9-15 (60%) from the floor, dished out four assists, and led the team with eight rebounds versus the Bisons. He scored the game-tying bucket before clinching the victory with two free throws with 11 seconds remaining.
On Saturday versus a streaking Arkansas Tech team, King scored 21 points on 9-18 (50%) shooting and poked away a team-high three steals. He scored 13 points in the first half alone, including nine in the last 10 minutes. Again, King's heroics were on display as his three-pointer with 45 seconds left gave OBU the cushion it needed to wrap up the win.
This season, King leads the Bison and ranks fourth in the GAC in scoring (16.7 ppg). He is fifth in the league in assists (53), averaging 3.8 per game, and has the most steals (24) for Oklahoma Baptist.
