Bison Welcome Undefeated UCO on Tuesday

SHAWNEE – After winning three of four matches over the weekend, Oklahoma Baptist returns to the Noble Complex on Sept. 6 for a match with 9-0 Central Oklahoma. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

This is the sixth meeting between the schools with UCO holding a 4-1 advantage. The last time these two teams met was Sept. 11, 2019 when OBU won in four in Edmond.

During the team's fall tournament, the Bison picked up wins against Newman, St. Edward's and Union (TN) to improve their early-season record to 3-5.

Helping lead the team were Taneyah Brown and Jill Leslie who averaged 2.88 and 3.0 kills per set, respectively. Freshman setters Rylee Martin and Abrey Galt combined for 189 of the team's 212 assists total and defensively, Maci Langford registered 5.75 digs per set.

Here's how the Bison stack up currently in the Great American Conference stat leaderboard:

Avery Hellmuth: 10th in attack percentage (.261) and 8th in blocks (0.86)
Langford: 2nd in digs per set (4.97)
Galt: Slotted 8th in assists (6.0)
Martin: Her 5.22 assists per set rank 10th
Brown: 9th in attack percentage (.263)

As a team, OBU leads the GAC in digs (17.97), and ranks second in both kills (13.34) and assists (12.03).

On the other bench is the Bronchos, a team that's off to its best start since 2016 when it opened that season 13-0. This past weekend, UCO won its four matches over St. Mary's, GAC schools Southern Nazarene and Southeastern Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma Christian.

Here are a few players to keep an eye on during Tuesday's match:

Sydney Huck: Leads the MIAA in points per set (4.78) and kills (4.13)
Jenna Karp: Ranks 4th in attack percentage (.313)
Lindsey Houran: Leads the MIAA in assists (11.00)

It should be noted that UCO has struggled a little defensively. The Bronchos are last (11th) in the MIAA in opponent kills per set (13.75) and seventh in opponent hitting percentage (.185).
