OBU Extends Win Streak With 3-0 Sweep of Tigers

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist won for the sixth straight time on Friday after a 3-0 defeat of Ouachita Baptist at the Noble Complex.

The victory moved the team's record to 12-8 and 6-1 in the Great American Conference. As for the visitors, they dropped to 10-9 and 3-4.

Junior D'Erricka Frierson recorded a match-high 12 kills to lead the green and gold's attack. Redshirt freshman Jill Leslie hit .500 with eight kills while Taneyah Brown added nine. In the assist department, Rylee Martin notched 20 and defensively, Maci Langford went for 27 digs. Also of note, Jenna West posted a career-best 16 digs.

As a unit, OBU held the Tigers to a mere .111 attack mark. Plus, no Ouachita player reached double-digit kill totals.

In the first, there were a handful of ties (5) and lead changes (2) before a late run from the Bison secured a 25-19 win. Following an ace from Tigers player Courtney Hanson, the scoreboard read 17-16, OBU. What followed was an 8-3 run to close. Leslie had a trio of kills while Brown added two to aid the hosts to victory.

Second-set action saw OBU rally from a seven-point deficit. A kill by Emily Adams had Ouachita cruising early, 15-8. But over the remainder of the second, the Bison slowly chipped away.

Later, and down 20-16, Leslie's three kills helped tie the set at 20-all. The scoreboard would change hands a couple times before the home squad tallied the final three points. Following a Tiger service error, Avery Hellmuth and Audrey Poupard delivered back-to-back kills to help the Bison win 26-24.

A mid-set block bonanza helped OBU seize control in the third. Trailing by a slim 10-9 margin, OBU scored eight of the next 10 which included blocks from West, Hellmuth and Leslie. The last of those made the tally 17-12, OBU. The Tigers wouldn't get any closer than two points after that as the Bison closed the final set with an 8-1 stretch.

Next on the calendar for the Bison is a road date at Southern Arkansas on Oct. 6.
