FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The
Oklahoma Baptist women's cross country team raced hard against some quality competitors during their Women's College 5k run at the Chile Pepper Festival on Friday.
Thanks to the efforts of sophomore
Sophia Strange, the Bison secured a 20th-place finish overall.
OBU's competition included the likes of the Arkansas State, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma and the host Arkansas Razorbacks, who ranks No. 13 in the national coaches' cross country poll this season.
Strange finished top for Oklahoma Baptist with a time of 17:30.6 at a 5:38 per kilometer pace. That was good for 32nd place overall.
Following Strange was senior
Kayla McGruder (18:30.3, 113th) and senior
Olivia Lynch (18:37.1, 120th). Then came sophomore
Jadyn Pavlik (18:57.6, 147th) and sophomore
Kaylen King (19:22.7, 185th).
With these efforts, the Bison had five finishers in the top 200 and ran an average time of 18:35.7.
By meet's end, the team had a total of 529 points.
Next on the agenda for the Bison is a race at home - the OBU Invitational - Oct. 15 at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
