OBU Ventures to Ouachita, Harding This Week

SHAWNEE – After an 11-day layoff, Oklahoma Baptist returns to the pitch with Great American Conference road matches against Ouachita and Harding on Sept. 22 and 24, respectively.

The Bison are 1-5 this year, but that's due almost entirely to a brutal non-conference slate. Of those six matches, four teams are currently ranked inside the top-12 of the United Soccer Coaches Division II Poll: No. 1 Dallas Baptist, No. 4 Central Missouri, No. 10 West Texas A&M and No. 12 Central Oklahoma.

Opponents aside, the Bison are looking to get in gear on the offensive side for their first GAC matches of the year.

Through a half-dozen contests, the team has tallied just three goals, two of which have been scored by Alanna Bloomingdale. Plus, OBU's 6.33 shots per game rank seventh out of seven schools in the GAC.

As mentioned prior, the Bison have played some of the best teams in the country. Those four aforementioned schools all rank in the top-38 in scoring offense. Going forward, the Bison defense should match up better. In fact, there's just one GAC school that ranks in the top-100 in scoring offense: Ouachita (88th).

Here's a look at this week's opponents, first the Tigers (4-3, 1-0 GAC) who have played OBU well over the years. This will be the 17th match in series history with the green and gold holding a slim 8-7-1 advantage over Ouachita.

As a team…
1st in goals allowed (11; 1.57 GAA)
3rd in shots taken (14.86)
4th in the GAC in scoring (1.57) and assists (4)

Individually…
Jamie Fowler: Leads the GAC with three game-winning goals. Also ranks 2nd in total goals (4)
Michele Snow: GAC leader in goals against average (1.53) and save percentage (.762)
Jaymee Dotson: Her seven shots on goal ranks 6th

On Saturday, Harding will host OBU, while looking to snap a 10-game losing streak to the Bison. During this current Bison win streak, coach Mike White's program has outscored Harding 22-5. The Lady Bison's last win against OBU came Sept. 22, 2016.

Here's how HU (1-5-1, 0-1 GAC) stacks up in the GAC…

As a team…
6th in shots (8.0) and 7th in goals (3)
3rd in goals allowed (13; 1.86 GAA)

Individually…
Caitlann Potter: One game-winning goals slots her 7th; leads team with 11 shots
Carmen Gunn: Ranks second on HU in shots (9) and on-target attempts (5)
Bethanie Dixon: 2nd in the GAC in GAA (1.66) and 3rd in save percentage (.740)
