Former Bison Antonio Wade Signs with Cyprus Professional Team

SHAWNEE – Former Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball standout Antonio Wade signed a professional contract with the Anorthosis Famagusta, a member of the Cyprus-OPAP Basketball League and FIBA (International Basketball Federation).

"I'm excited about this opportunity with Anorthosis Famagusta," said Wade. "It is a big step in my career, and I can't wait to get there and showcase my talent. I cannot express the amount of appreciation I have for Coach Eaker. His mentorship and coaching style made the transition into professional basketball easier than most".

Wade, a 6-1 guard from Marietta, Ga., spent his senior season in 2018-19 with the Bison. At OBU, Wade led the team in points per game (16.1), assists (145), and steals (32). He scored in double figures in 25-of-28 games, including a season-high 36 in a win against Northwestern Oklahoma State, and was named the Great American Conference Newcomer of the Year. He was also a second-team selection for all-conference.

This is Wade's third stop in his professional career after spending the last two seasons (2020-21, 2021-22) in the Herzegovina and Bosnia Division league with KK Promo Donji Vakuf and KK Bratunac TRB.

In his debut professional season with Promo Donji Vakuf, Wade averaged 6.5 points, 2.3 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per contest. He reached double digits nine times, including a 13-point performance on 66.7 percent shooting against Spars Realway. Furthermore, the Georgia native ranked third on the squad in assists.

Wade posted a breakout season in 2021-22, leading his club in assists (5.7 ppg) and ranking second in points per game (16.8). Additionally, Wade averaged 2.3 steals in 15 games of action.

The third-year professional shot 48.6 percent from the floor and 35.2 percent from the arc. Wade's premiere season saw a career-high 28-point pouring against his former club Promo Donji Vakuf on October 23, 2021. He'd score 24 or more points in the next three contests with the rest of his season featuring double-digits performances in all but two games.

Wade recorded his first career triple-double following his 24-plus point streak, pulling down 14 rebounds, collecting 10 assists, and scoring 10 points versus Posusje.

The 2022-23 season will begin for Anorthosis Famagusta in October.
