TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn used a penalty kick from Viviana Soto-Herrara with about 10 minutes left to push the Ichabods to a 1-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday night at Yager Stadium.
On this night, the hosts were able to control possession and held a 15-2 shots advantage over the Bison. Despite that, OBU got a great performance from junior goalie
Mia Pendleton.
The Choctaw, Okla., native stopped seven Ichabod shots to keep the scoreboard blank for nearly 80 minutes of action. Offensively though, the Bison could not find enough opportunities to break the scoreless tie and aid its defense.
In fact, the green and gold were held to two shots on goal. The first, in the 13th minute to
Kaylee Swaner, and in the 71st, an attempt by
Annika Pinter. Both shots were stopped by Washburn goalie Raegan Wells.
What led to the match's lone goal was a yellow card issued in the box at the 79:44 mark. Soto-Herrara then finished it off to provide all the scoring the Ichabods needed.
On Saturday, Oklahoma Baptist will return to the pitch for a 1 p.m. contest at Central Missouri.
