CANYON, Texas – Oklahoma Baptist's efforts at the West Texas A&M Last Chance meet on Sunday yielded six NCAA Division II provisional marks with the national outdoor championship just 11 days away.
A trio of women's events - the long jump, discus and 4x400 meter relay - met national standards while three more men's events – 100-meter dash, 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 relay – did as well.
On the women's side,
Anisha Henderson met a provisional benchmark in the long jump with a mark of 5.92 meters. That met the NCAA's standards by 0.10. Then in the discus throw,
Jade Byrd's toss of 46.33 meters (45.90) earned the Bison women's second qualifying mark.
Addison Brooks,
Tizhane Brooks,
Mary McKey and
Taylor James delivered OBU's third provisional mark in the 4x400 meter relay. That quartet crossed the finish line in 3:43.74 which was about five seconds faster than the NCAA's standards.
On the men's side,
Mahcoe Smith came through in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.50. That met NCAA standards by 0.05. Smith later teamed up with
Jax Holland,
Shirvante Knauls and
Jai Moore in the 4x100 meter relay with another qualifying time.
That group earned a mark of 40.50, which was a little more than a half-second (0.56) better than then NCAA provisional standard. The time was also a season-best.
Rounding out OBU's qualifying performances was the 4x400 meter relay team of
Sayvon Milton,
Marcus Petersen, Knauls and Holland. In that event, they crossed the finish line in 3:11.66. That, too, was a season-best time.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks to see which Bison will head to Allendale, Michigan for the NCAA D2 Outdoor Championships.
