DENTON, Texas – Oklahoma Baptist (27-18, 13-11 GAC) kicked off the week with a two-game sweep of Texas Woman's University (9-28, 4-20 LSC) on Wednesday, beating the Pioneers 5-4 and 6-3 in Denton.
The victories extend the Bison winning streak to six games, its longest since 2020.
OBU fought off a late TWU rally in game one before asserting their offensive dominance with 10 hits in the finale.
Two freshmen, Aileen Avelar and Sammie Greene led the Bison at the plate in both games. Avelar registered four hits with a couple of RBIs, while Greene finished with three hits and two RBIs.
In the circle, the pitching corps of Aspen Younce and Kayleigh Jones took care of business. Each pitched complete games, highlighted by 10 strikeouts from Younce. Jones struck out eight in game one, facing a total of 30 batters.
GAME ONE
After a scoreless opening frame, Sheyanne Sandoval put the Bison on the board with a single that scored Sammie Greene.
TWU countered with a score in the third to draw the tally one-all before OBU erupted for three runs in the third.
The scoring stretch began when an Aileen Avelar single scored Samantha Campos to take a 2-1 lead. The next batter, Reagan Ford, walked to advance the loaded bases for another score.
Afterward, a Greene sacrifice fly brought Sandoval across home plate for a 4-1 advantage.
OBU tacked on one more in the fifth, courtesy of a Greene double into right field for the Bison's final score.
Texas Woman's would mount a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs, but Jocee Sparks caught a foul ball for the third out to cement the victory.
Sandoval and Avelar garnered two hits while five others registered a hit apiece. Greene's two RBIs led the way while Sandoval, Avelar, and Ford tallied one RBI.
GAME TWO
The Pioneers came out firing in the second, scoring three in the first to take their first lead of the series after the Bison scored one at the top of the frame.
Oklahoma Baptist added another after a Reese single brought Ford home.
Then, it was all OBU.
The Bison blanked the opposition through the remainder of the contest, ripping off four runs in the process for the series sweep.
Younce faced 29 batters and surrendered two earned runs while four batters tallied two hits against TWU.
Sammie Greene also stole two bases in the game.
Oklahoma Baptist turns their attention to the weekend, where they'll hit the road to Arkansas for a conference series against Southern Arkansas on Friday.
