SHAWNEE – A stellar pitching performance from
Bo Dallas paired with a couple home runs from
Alex Schroeder helped Oklahoma Baptist to a 7-4 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday night at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park.
The win by the Bison improved the team's record to 6-9 and 2-5 in the GAC.
On the mound, Dallas tossed eight innings and kept the Bulldogs scoreless in six of those. He struck out nine and also induced a combined 15 groundouts and flyouts.
After two scoreless frames, the visitors got the first lead of the game in the third. Jean Ortiz socked a two-out solo homer to left center breaking the scoreless tie.
That 1-0 advantage was short-lived for the Bulldogs, though. A half-inning later, the Bison took the lead. Following a two-out walk to
Dan Pruitt, Schroeder took a 0-1 pitch and sent it over the left-field wall. That shot also scored
Brandon Brewer who had reached base earlier on an infield bunt.
Down 4-1, SWOSU would tie things up in the fifth. Catcher Griffen Larsen socked a two-run shot before Taylan Mullins-Ohn connected with a solo homer two batters after.
Once more though, the Bison offense didn't flinch a half-frame later and retook the lead. And it came courtesy of Schroeder again. After Pruitt reached via walk, OBU's catcher rocked a 1-1 pitch to left. That smack would give the home squad a lead it would never relinquish.
Over the next four innings, the Bison defense along with Dallas and closer
Garrett Kellogg-Clarke denied SWOSU. In fact, the Bulldogs put just one in scoring position. Furthermore, third baseman
Trey Furrey and Brewer, at shortstop, turned some difficult outs to aid the team.
Tomorrow, the two squads will return to the diamond for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
