EDMOND, Okla. – Alex Schroeder had a pair of three-run homers to help lead Oklahoma Baptist to a convincing 10-4 win against Pittsburg State on Monday afternoon during the second day of the UCO First Pitch Classic.
Schroeder also drove in six runs as the Bison continued their strong offensive play early this season.
On the mound,
Tyler Frank provided a big lift for the OBU staff. He went seven frames, struck out nine and gave up three runs.
After the Gorillas got the first lead of the game in the first, the green and gold came back in the third. A three-run blast from second baseman
Ramon Gomez gave OBU a 3-1 lead. That homer also scored
Jose Parga and
Cade Kissel.
PSU's Aranda Cruz helped the Gorillas pull to within one in the third as he doubled to right center. However, Frank would induce a 6-4-3 double play a couple batters later to end the threat. It would really be the last time PSU threatened too.
Following two scoreless frames in the fourth and fifth, the Bison expanded their lead. In the top of the sixth, Schroeder went yard. In fact, this was another three-run bomb for OBU. That moved the scoreboard to 6-2 before Parga closed the inning with another homer.
Then in the seventh, Schroeder sealed the deal. With two out, he sent a shot down the left-field line clearing the wall and scoring
Troy Shields and
Walker Keller.
Bison reliever
Devin Crawford then closed the game in the final two frames. He only gave up a hit and induced a combined six groundouts and flyouts.
Offensively, Gomez led the team going 4-for-5 while Schroeder notched those two homers.
Tomorrow, OBU will look to close the Classic with another victory when they play Emporia State at 11 a.m.
