OBU Open Week with Monday Night Matchup with Wonderboys

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team will host Arkansas Tech on Monday, Feb. 7 inside the Noble Complex at 6 p.m. The contest is a makeup of the Jan. 8 postponement.

Tomorrow will be the 16th all-time meeting between the two ball clubs, with the Bison edging an 8-7 series lead. The two have not met since the 2020 season, as OBU took that game 85-80 in double-overtime in Russellville.

The game will be streamed on OBUBison.com and heard on the Bison Sports Network featuring Todd Miller on play-by-play and Scott Wanish on color commentary.

Monday will be the first of back-to-back matchups with Tech as Oklahoma Baptist will travel to Arkansas on Thursday to cap off the regular-season series.

OBU is coming off a hard-fought 67-62 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State yesterday evening. The Bison finished shooting 45.6 percent from the floor while holding the Bulldogs to a 32.4 percent clip. Oklahoma also tied their season-high in assists, tallying 19 against SWOSU.

Jaquan Simms led a balanced Bison scoring attack, scoring 13, while Harrison Stoddart followed up with 11. Burke Putnam rounded out OBU's double-digit scorers with 10.

Putnam's 10 points in Saturday's victory tallied 12 straight games with 10-plus points for the senior. It becomes the third-longest double-digit streak since the Bison joined Division II. The mark sits behind Chandler Rickey's 20-straight in 2017-18 and Wade Antonio's 14-straight in the 2018-19 season.

The Tulsa native retains the top scoring position in the GAC, averaging 19.7 points per game, despite posting his second-lowest scoring total of the season. Putnam is hitting a remarkable 47.9 percent of his shots and leads the team in steals with 29 total.

On Saturday, senior Harrison Stoddart joined Brantly Thompson on the shortlist of active Bison players with over 100 career starts in the green and gold. Stoddart now has 100 starts while Thompson totals 111.

Arkansas Tech enters Monday with a 7-11 overall mark, including a 4-8 conference record. The Wonderboys have a jam-packed upcoming schedule as they're slated to play five games over the next eight days. Majority of which are makeup contests that were postponed due to COVID-19.

ATU is coming off a 72-46 win over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday, as the 26-point margin was their largest of the season.

In 10 games of action, Czar Perry leads Wonderboys in scoring at 16.5 points per game and assists (68). Tony Hall is the team's top rebounder, totaling 119, while ranking second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game.

Arkansas Tech is led by head coach Mark Downey who is in his sixth season with the Wonderboys. He holds a 209-149-2 overall record, including a 91-65 mark at Tech.
