Furrey, Bison Take Game One over Ouachita

SHAWNEE – Third baseman Trey Furrey was one off the OBU single-game hits record as Oklahoma Baptist won 15-13 over Ouachita on Sunday afternoon at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park.

OBU improved to 5-6 and 1-3 in the GAC with the result.

Furrey was a perfect 5-for-5 in the batter's box which included a double, three runs scored and two RBI. The Bison also got multiple hits from Isiah Lissade and Alex Schroeder. By game's end, the green and gold had amassed 15 hits to go with those 15 runs, tying a season-high.

Before the Bison got in gear, it was the visiting Tigers who got in front. Dustin Bermudez had an RBI single in the second before a two-run infield throwing error helped Ouachita plate three an inning later.

Down 4-0, OBU responded in the fourth. Furrey got things going with a two-out hit before Troy Shields was walked. What followed was the Bison's first run courtesy of Jose Parga. Then in the next at-bat, Lissade bombed a triple to right center plating Parga and Troy Shields. OBU's big inning was then capped off by a Walker Keller RBI single to left center.

A frame later, the green and gold got the lead as Schroeder smoked a shot over left field.

Now trailing 5-4, Ouachita scored three straight and took a 7-5 advantage into the bottom of the seventh. Once more though, the hosts responded.

In fact, over the seventh and eighth innings, the Bison scored a whopping 10 runs. Seventh-inning highlights including a sacrifice fly from Ramon Gomez and a two-run hit by Lissade. Then in the eighth, Furrey and Shields each drove in two runs on a pair of doubles.

The Tigers did make things rather interesting in the ninth scoring six runs. That included a bases-clearing double by Isaac Nowell. However, the Bison's eight-run lead was too much to overcome.

Tomorrow, the teams will play a doubleheader starting at noon. Fans are encouraged to come and can purchase tickets online.
