Bison Kick Off Year With Exhibition Against MACU

SHAWNEE – Tuesday night at the Noble Complex, Oklahoma Baptist played hard for the season-opening exhibition match, but fell to Mid-America Christian, 58-41.

Leading scorers on this night for OBU were Madison Chambers and newcomer Jaedyn Getman who registered 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Kicking off the game was Getman, who secured two jumpers from the middle of the key for the first Bison points. From there, the Bison played a defense-heavy game against Mid-America's guard Shy Christopher.

Though she only landed one of four shot attempts, her ball-stealing skills posed as a threat to OBU's turnover rate. Largely due to the seven points made off the Bison's 13 turnovers, the first quarter ended with a Mid-America lead of 11-8.

The second quarter showed OBU's Getman, Sierra Copeland and seniors Melissa Southard and Chambers seeking to put points on the board. Unfortunately, only five of the 11 field-goal attempts sunk through the basket.

Additionally, the turnover rate of the Bison once again served as a setback. With five turnovers in the second, OBU's miscues numbered 18 in comparison to Mid-America's 11. With this, the Evangels went into halftime with a 29-22 advantage.

The third was marked by the Bison rearing to make a quick comeback. OBU's sophomore Kennedy Large and senior Malou Savannah served as the team's main sources of points. With Large's two successful field goals and their combined free throws, the duo put nine points on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, these points weren't enough to secure a lead. The third ended 38-37, Evangels lead.

The final period sealed the fate of the Bison. By the hands of Mid-America's Jaci Little, the scoreboard went from a difference of one point to a difference of 10 in the first six minutes of the stanza .

Next on the schedule for the green and gold is the regular-season opener in Topeka, Kan. against Pittsburg State on Nov. 11 at 4:00 p.m.
