Strange Leads OBU to 3rd at GAC Championship

SHAWNEE, Okla.- The Oklahoma Baptist women's cross country team fought hard against some quick competitors during the 2022 GAC Cross Country Championships at Gordon Cooper Technology Center on Saturday.  
 
Sophomore Sophia Strange stood out as the leader of the team, and the race as a whole. She finished the 5000-kilometer race with a stunning time of 18:07.2. This was good for first. 
 
Five Bison finished in the top-40 for the Bison's third-place finish with 87 points overall.  
Following Strange were seniors Kayla McGruder (18:51.20, 8th) and Olivia Lynch (19:14.40, 17th). Then came sophomores Jadyn Pavlik (19:35.10, 26th) Kaylen King (20:10.30, 39th).  
 
With all these contributions, the top five ran an average time of 19:03.60. 
 
Rounding off the team were sophomore Zoee Weaver (20:25.50, 40th) and freshman Emily Coffee (20:26.30, 41st).  
 
Winning the event for the first time was Ouachita while Arkansas Tech finished in second.
 
Next on the agenda for the Bison is the NCAA Central Region Championship, Nov.19 in Joplin, Mo.
