WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State moved into first place in the Great American Conference after a 6-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday afternoon at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
OBU dropped to 4-6-1 (3-1-1 GAC) while the Bulldogs moved their record to 3-4-4 and 3-0-2 in the GAC.
The story of the match was four goals from Alimata Rabo who moved into the first place all-time in SWOSU history with 80 career goals. Additionally, for the first time since joining the GAC in 2015, the Bison defense allowed five or more goals to a conference opponent.
Early in the first half, OBU attained the game's first shot as
Kaylee Swaner missed a few feet above the crossbar. After that, though, it was all Bulldogs.
In the 14th minute, Rabo got around a Bison defender on the right side of the 18 and then fired into the left corner. A little over nine minutes later, Emmy Wagner fed Desiree Rodriguez who worked around another OBU defender and scored from outside the left post.
By halftime, the hosts led 3-0 and had a 13-6 shots advantage.
After the break, OBU tried to create a little momentum in the final third of the field. Swaner and
Kelsey Price each recorded on-goal attempts, but both were denied by SWOSU goalie Ashley Hughes who ended up having to defend just three shots on-goal from the Bison.
SWOSU added three more goals in the second half for its final margin. As for the Bison, freshman
Annabelle Joski tallied the team's lone on-target attempt of the final stanza.
In two days, the Bison will return home to face Northwestern Oklahoma State for a 12 p.m. start.
