Bison, Rangers Get Locked into Scoreless Tie

ALVA, Okla. – Great American Conference soccer action has seen a slew of ties in the last week and Thursday night's match between Oklahoma Baptist and Northwestern Oklahoma State was no different. By the end of the 90 minutes of competition, it was 0-0.

With that result, paired with wins by Ouachita and Southwestern Oklahoma State, the four-team field for next week's conference tourney is set. For the Bison, they will be the three seed. The host site will be determined after Saturday's matches.

OBU, which held a significant 10-2 advantage over the Rangers in shots on goal, moved its record to 6-7-4 and 5-2-4 in the GAC. As for Northwestern, they tied for the fifth straight match and saw its record go to 6-4-7 and 3-2-6 in the league.

The Bison had chances in each half as shown by its 15-9 lead in shots. In the first at the 18th minute, senior Katie Fowler just missed above the top crossbar after her attempt from the left side.

Over the remainder of the stanza, Fowler, Jadynn Daggs and Krissy Fulton all had on-target looks but those were denied by Rangers goalie Maggie Koster. As for the hosts, each of their shots in the first 45 were collected by keeper Mia Pendleton. For Pendleton, she has not conceded a goal in the last 405 minutes of action.

Second-half competition continued to bring chances for the green and gold.

A little over 11 minutes in, Kaylee Swaner drove past two defenders down the Rangers' end line before Maddison Williams would corral the ball. The senior's shot from just around the 18-yard box was deflected away, though.

Williams, a couple minutes later, found another attempt, this one stopped at the left post by Koster. Two more opportunities came to Daggs and Michaela White a little later, but none rang true.

On Saturday at 7 p.m., the Bison will return home to face SWOSU on Senior Night for the program. Over the course of the match, the team will be raising money for the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children as well as selling hot chocolate and waters.
