DURANT, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist football team fell 62-14 to Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-3, 5-3 GAC) on Saturday afternoon in Durant. The loss brings OBU's record to 1-7 (1-7 GAC) on the year.
The Bison started the contest strongly. After forcing the Savage Storm to punt on the game's opening drive, Oklahoma Baptist marched from its own 32-yard line to the 33-yard marker of SEOSU, highlighted by a 41-yard connection from
Dayton Wolfe and
Matthew Norman.
The action was to no avail, as a failed 50-yard field goal attempt left the Bison scoreless. This summed up OBU's success early on, as the Southeastern took the reins afterward.
Following three first-down conversions, Southeastern broke the game open at the 6:41 mark, courtesy of a Daulton Hatley 27-yard pass to Marquis Gray.
SEOSU carried its momentum into the second quarter, furthering its lead with five touchdowns to draw the tally 42-0.
Despite its failings, Oklahoma Baptist fared well in the third on the defensive side of the ball.
Chase Whitebear notched his third interception of the season midway through the third to give OBU some life. Still, the Savage Storm remained protective of its endzone, holding the Bison out for another quarter. With this, the third ended 49-0.
In the fourth, Oklahoma Baptist found its way into the endzone twice.
The first came with 5:30 left. EJ Moore scampered his way in for a score to cap an 89-yard drive highlighted by five completions from quarterback Seth Streeter.
On the Bison's next chance, Streeter sealed a 56-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown pitch to receiver Charles Whitebear.
Southeastern racked up 591 yards on offense, including 362 through the air, while OBU garnered 322 total yards.
Streeter finished 11-15 for 123 yards with a touchdown and 17 yards on the ground. Wolfe, who started the game, went 10-21 for 96 yards.
Buddy Bizzell led the rushing attack with 34 yards, while Moore scored a touchdown and recorded 18 yards.
On the receiving end, Norman caught three passes for 59 yards, and Charles Whitebear charted a score.
Defensively, Kaleb Peters made 10 tackles, while Chase Whitebear recorded eight tackles and registered an interception.
OBU's next game will take place at home next Saturday, October 29, against the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
