SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist trampled the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm in a chilly game on Tuesday, winning 4-0 at the OBU Soccer Complex. With the result, the green and gold ran their GAC record to 5-2-2 while SNU dropped their conference mark to 1-7-2.
The Bison spent the first half dominating the Storm's side of the field. Junior
Kaylee Swaner scored 10 minutes into the match with an assist by freshman
Annabelle Joski. Twenty-one minutes passed before SNU attempted their first shot through the efforts of junior Kaitlyn Deaton. This shot proved unfruitful with a quick save by junior keeper
Mia Pendleton.
These efforts were quickly followed by an OBU goal taken by junior
Alanna Bloomingdale and assisted by senior
Katie Fowler at 21:20. Bloomingdale was near the top of the 18 and fired with her left foot into the left side.
By the end of the first half, the scoreboard read an unattested 2-0 Bison lead. OBU had racked up a staggering total of 15 shots to SNU's one.
Within the first two minutes of the second, the Bison proved they were still plenty fired up in the 49-degree weather with a high center goal by Fowler. That was Fowler's ninth this season, tying for the GAC lead. Though SNU tried to fight for a place on the scoreboard, the defensive skills of senior
Maddison Williams and sophomore
Asley Baker snuffed out the Storm's attempts.
With 19 minutes left to play, Swaner secured her place as match MVP and the Bison's place as victors with a low-right goal. By the match's end, SNU had only taken five shots to OBU's 24.
Next on the schedule for the green and gold is a match this Thursday in Ada, Okla. against East Central, set for 3:00 p.m.
