Bison Drop Doubleheader to Boll Weevils

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist baseball team dropped a pair of games to Arkansas-Monticello in a Saturday doubleheader. The Bison were edged out in the first game 7-6 and fell to the Boll Weevils in game two 12-8.

The Bison got off to a lightning start as Cliff Pradd and Hector Ruvalcaba posted two solo home runs in the bottom of the first and fourth respectively. Cade Kissel added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double, giving OBU a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth inning.

Arkansas-Monticello's offense came alive in the top of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. OBU was unable to answer back in the bottom of the fifth as the game went into the sixth inning. After a scoreless top of the sixth for the Boll Weevils, the Bison tied up the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth. Ruvalcaba and Colin Prince scored off singles from Kade Self and Pradd.

Monticello would reclaim the lead in the top of the eighth when Cole Muckleroy and Audy Clary made their way around the diamond off an Andrew Piraino double. This double by Piraino gave the Boll Weevils the game-sealing seventh run.

OBU found a spark in the bottom of the ninth as they loaded the bases and Kase Warner scored off a Ruvalcaba single. Unfortunately, Monticello was able to put a stop to the OBU rally and squeezed out the 7-6 win.

In game two, Monticello got off to a fast start, posting a grand slam and a solo home run in the first two innings. OBU responded by posting five runs of its own in the first two innings. Unfortunately, in the top of the fourth the Boll Weevils was able to extend their lead to 7-5. OBU answered back, cutting it back down to 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough, as Monticello went on a four-run tear in the top of the sixth to push its lead to 12-7. The Bison were able to put up one final run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 12-8 game. Monticello's defense proved too much for the Bison offense though, as Boll Weevil pitcher Connor Wilkerson put away the final-three Bison batters in the bottom of the seventh.

Ruvalcaba led the Bison offense, posting four hits, four runs, three RBIs, and a home run over the course of the doubleheader.
