DES MOINES, Iowa – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Iowa to participate in the 2021 Drake Relays. In the first day of competition the Bison won one event and had two other top three finishes.

OBU is coming off strong showing at the 2021 Great American Conference Championships, where the women's team placed second and men's team claimed its second straight GAC Championship.

The team of
Jax Holland, Matthew Norman,
Jared Cheatwood, and
Tarees Rhoden claimed the sprint relay with a time of 3:27.54. They edged out Augustana by .04 seconds.Â

On the women's side
Emma Downing Kayla McGruder,
Adeline O'Connor, and
Tesa Potter combined for a second-place finish in the 4x800 meter relay. They finished with a time of  9:09.61 which was a whole 5.84 seconds faster than the 4x800 meter team from Augustana.Â

The final top three performance of the day came from the
Dawnnae Chatman,
Tizhane Brooks,
Taylor James, and Potter when they placing third in the sprint relay. The team completed the relay in a time of 4:13.61.Â

The Bison will conclude the Drake Relays on Saturday, April 24. The first event of the day will be the women's distance medley which is scheduled for 8 a.m.Â
