MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Oklahoma Baptist softball team struggled throughout the day on Friday afternoon as they dropped their doubleheader to Arkansas-Monticello in GAC play, 5-4 and 9-1 (6).
In the first game, the Blossoms got off to the quick start, taking advantage of two Bison errors in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
OBU battled back into the contest as
Shelby Savage drove in a run on a RBI walk in the second inning then picked up a two RBI single in the fourth to tie the game. However, UAM regained the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to take the lead back at 5-3.
The Bison could not muster anything offensively until the seventh inning when they got runners on second and third with two down.
Asia Henry made it a 5-4 game with a RBI single, but the tying run remained 60 feet away as the Bison grounded out to end the game.
Despite only allowing three earned runs to go with seven strikeouts,
Aspen Younce took the loss in the circle.
Kaytlyn Marsh was 3-for-4 on the day with a double and a run scored while Henry was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Savage was 1-for-2 with three RBI while
McKenna Anderson and
Cheyenne Demaree each had a hit.
In game two, everything went wrong for OBU in the fourth as the Blossoms put six on the board to break open the game and take a 7-0 lead. The Bison got a run back in the sixth, but UAM scored two runs in the bottom half to close the game with a 9-1 win in six innings.
Shianne Eddings took the loss in the circle while Anderson was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Emily Richardson added a 2-for-2 day.
OBU will look to salvage the series on Saturday afternoon as they battle UAM in the series finale at 12 p.m.
