Bison Drop Doubleheader to Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist softball team carried leads late into the game in both of their contests on Friday afternoon, but Southeastern Oklahoma State rallied to take the doubleheader and the series with a 7-3 and 3-2 win.

Aspen Younce was excellent early on for the Bison in game one, throwing four innings of scoreless ball and working through a no-hitter with seven strikeouts.

The Bison broke through in the top of the fifth inning as Shelby Savage smacked a three-run home run over the left field wall to open up a 3-0 lead.

However, Southeastern broke through with a six run bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of walks and hit batters to retake the lead. They added one more in the sixth and finished off the Bison to take the 7-3 win.

Savage was 1-for-3 with the three run bomb while Emily Richardson was 1-for-2 with a walk. Sheyanne Sandoval added a 1-for-3 day with a run scored while Kylie Kawamura, Kaytlyn Marsh, and McKenna Anderson each added a hit.

In game two, pitching continued to dominate as Kayliegh Jones took the circle and dazzled throughout most of the contest. Southeastern would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth before Cheyenne Demaree responded with a huge two RBI single in the top of the sixth to vault OBU ahead 2-1.

However, the Savage Storm got one back in the sixth and followed that by walking it off with a safety squeeze in the seventh to take the series with a 3-2 win.

Jones sat down seven in the loss while Demaree was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Jadyn James added a 1-for-1 day off the bench as the Bison offense could only muster two in the contest.

OBU moves to 15-12 overall and 10-10 in the GAC. They will return to the road on Tuesday as they head to Bethany to take on rival Southern Nazarene in a single GAC contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
