SHAWNEE – After 671 long days the Oklahoma Baptist outdoor track and field team finally opened its season with the 2021 OBU Invitational. OBU welcomed in 19 different teams to the Hurt Memorial Athletic Complex for the invitational. Â

The Bison complete day one with two individual wins and lead in both the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.

Saleem Fadel took the win in the hammer toss, posting a distance of 52.70 meters.
Zane Nutter currently leads the field in the men's decathlon winning four of the first five events. He took the long jump (6.58 meters), shot put (9.73 meter), high jump (1.97 meters), and the 400 meter run (52.75 seconds). This gives him a day one total of 3403 points and a 321 point lead over Chaney Martin of Oklahoma Christian.

On the women's side,
Emma Downing won the 5000 meter run with time of 17:43.51. This is a new personal record for her, having beaten her old time of 18:31.07.
Elizabeth Jones leads pack in the women's heptathlon. Jones won both the shot put (9.39 meters) and the 200 meter run (26.75). She currently has a score of 2559 points and leads Megan Wortmann of Southern Nazarene by 260 points.

Brittany Street (hammer toss).

Day two of the OBU Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 27 with the continuation of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.
