Bison Dominate the OBU Invitational

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field team dominated the second day of the OBU Invitational. The Bison combined for a total of 19 wins (10 women's and nine men's) on the second day. OBU's two-day win total was brought to 21 by today's fantastic performance.
 
In one day of competition, OBU earned three 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship provisional qualifiers. Mahcoe Smith earned the first qualification for the Bison in the 100 meter dash. He won the event with a time of 10.50 seconds, .07 seconds better than the time he needed to qualify. The second qualification was earned by Emily Julian in the pole vault. She posted a vault of 3.95 meters, the qualifying height being 3.67. Julian won her event by .40 meters. Zane Nutter earned the final qualification for the Bison, in the decathlon. Needing a score of 6325, he posted a score of 6372. Nutter's score gave him the win, beating out his nearest opponent by 364 points.
 
In the relays, the Bison swept both the men's and women's 4x100 meter and the 4x400 meter. Smith, Jax Holland, Marcus Petersen, and Matthew Norman took the 4x100 for the men posting a time of 41.33. Imani Jackson, Dawnnae Chatman, Candis Rodgers, and Tizhane Brooks then took the 4x100 for the women with a time of 47.95. Shirvante Knauls, Zachary Coak, Holland, and Tarees Rhoden won the men's 4x400 meter (3:23.61) and Mary McKey, Brooks, Adeline O'Connor, and Taylor James took the women's 4x400 (4:04.02).
 
Other individual wins for the women include Emma Downing in the 1500 meter run (4:39.40), James in the 400 meter run (57.57), Chatman in the 200 meter run (25.43), Isabella Lotz in the long and triple jump (5.49 meters and 11.28 meters), Brittany Street in the shot put (13.47 meters), and Elizabeth Jones in the heptathlon (4128 points).
 
On the men's side, other individual wins include Knauls in the 400 meter run (48.79), Holland in the 200 meter run (21.69), Jacob Power in the discus throw (47.33 meters), and Nathaniel Worley in both the high and triple jump (2.05 meters and 13.55 meters).
 
The Bison will return to action at the University of Texas at Arlington invitational on Saturday, April 3. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
