AUSTIN, Texas – After two days of stiff competition, Oklahoma Baptist senior track and field athlete
Hayden Ashley closed out the Texas Relays decathlon in fifth place. Ashley finished with a score of 6928, giving him an NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship provisional qualification. His score of 6928 is also a personal best, having beaten his previous record by 47 points.

Ashley started the day with the 110 meter hurdles, posting a time of 16.63 seconds. Up next was the discus throw, in which he threw a distance of 36.70 meters. In the pole vault Ashley got a second-place finish, posting a vault of 4.60 meters. Ashley then posted a third-place performance in the javelin throw with distance of 55.12. This distance is a new personal best for him having beaten out his previous record of 54.42 meters. In the 1500 meter run (the final event of the decathlon), Ashley placed second with a time of 4:35.47.

Ashley will now return home to Shawnee to participate in the second day of the OBU Invitational. Day two of the invitational is set to begin on Saturday, March 27 at 10 a.m.
