Softball Splits Friday Doubleheader at East Central

ADA, Okla. - The Oklahoma Baptist softball team took home an 8-5 victory in game one over East Central in Great American Conference play before falling to the Tigers in the second game, 8-0 (5), on Friday afternoon.

The Bison brought their bats in the early going of game one as Kaytlyn Marsh opened the scoring in the second inning with a RBI double. In the third inning, Jocee Sparks put down a perfect safety squeeze to bring home Shelby Savage while Cheyenne Demaree made it a 3-0 game in the fourth with a solo shot to center.

ECU got two back in the bottom of the fourth with a two RBI single, but OBU responded with a huge four run inning as Demaree drove a run in on a RBI single while Asia Henry blew the game open with a three-run blast to left to break it open at 7-2.

Emily Richardson added a RBI double in the sixth and OBU was in total control going into the bottom of the sixth.

ECU used the long ball to cut into the deficit as two long balls made it 8-5, but OBU closed it out for a game one victory at 8-5.

Kayleigh Jones (W, 6-3) got the win on the afternoon, going 4.0 innings of work and striking out six while only allowing four runs on two hits. Aspen Younce added three innings of work and struck out seven despite allowing three runs.

Henry drove in three on her single hit from the long ball while Richardson was 1-for-4 with a RBI double.

In game two, OBU could not get anything going offensively as East Central banged out 11 hits and used a two run third and a four run fourth to break the game open and take an 8-0 win in five.

Savage was 2-for-2 on the day while Sparks, Demaree, and Marsh each added a hit.
