Jones Mows Down 10 to Claim Series Over ECU

ADA, Okla. - The Oklahoma Baptist softball team got a dominant complete game 10 strikeout performance from Kayleigh Jones to take a 5-0 win over victory over East Central on Saturday afternoon.

OBU got the scoring started in the top of the first as Emily Richardson drove home a run on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. It was all the Bison would need as Jones was absolutely dominant in the circle, mowing down the Tigers and keeping them off balanced all afternoon.

Reagan Ford was a terror on the base paths in the fourth, causing a throwing error from the Tigers and coming around to score to push the lead to 2-0.

As Jones continued to work, the Bison used their muscle in the seventh inning as for the second straight Cheyenne Demaree and Asia Henry did damage with the long ball. Demaree smacked a two run blast to push the lead to four while Henry added a solo shot one batter later.

Jones would cap her masterpiece, holding onto the shutout despite two hits in the seventh from ECU for the win.

Jones (W, 7-3) retired the first 11 batters and went the distance, allowing no runs on four hits to go with 10 strikeouts to no walks. It was her second win of the week fro the two-time Pitcher of the Week.

Demaree led the way offensively with a 2-for-3 day with a homer and two RBI while Shelby Savage also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Henry and Richardson each had a hit and a RBI while Sheyanne Sandoval, Kaytlyn Marsh, Kylie Kawamura, and McKenna Anderson each had a hit.

OBU moves to 10-6 on the young season and 6-5 in the GAC after the series win. They'll take a break from conference play and return home on Tuesday to battle Fort Hays State and Cameron beginning at 3 p.m.
