SHAWNEE - A pair of huge quarters, as well as 14 3-pointers for the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm, was too much to overcome as Oklahoma Baptist fell on Saturday afternoon inside the Noble Complex, 83-55.
The Bison shot 20 of 61 (33%) from the field and 2 of 15 (13%) from deep while hitting a season-low in percentage at the free throw line, finishing 13 of 23 (57%).Â
On the other end, Southeastern shot 29 of 57 (51%) from the field including 26 of 44 through three quarters of play. The Savage Storm went 14 of 31 (45%) from deep and 11 of 12 (92%) at the line. OBU only turned it over 11 times while taking it away 14 times.
The Bison got off to a great start, leading 4-0 on lay ins from
Andreja Peciuraite and
Jaylin Stapleton. However, Southeastern scored eight straight to take an 8-4 lead and turned that run into a 20-4 advantage to take a 20-8 lead.
Southeastern was red hot in the first quarter, outscoring OBU 29-13 and shooting a blistering 10 of 17 (59%) from the field. Southeastern would only cool down slightly, but OBU went punch for punch in the second quarter, trailing 45-27 at the break.
The Savage Storm delivered the knockout punch in the third quarter, shooting 9 of 14 (64%) from the field with six 3-pointers to open the game up, scoring 30 in the quarter.Â
OBU fought in the fourth quarter as the benches emptied, forcing eight turnovers and outscoring the Savage Storm 15-8; however, Southeastern left Shawnee with the 83-55 victory.
Peciuraite led the Bison with 15 points and four rebounds, while Ford scored eight off the bench to go with six rebounds.
Charissa Price scored seven and had four rebounds, andÂ
Jenni Beebe added seven points and seven rebounds.
Four players were in double figures for Southeastern in Briley Moon (22), Katie Branam (17), Kamryn Cantwell (14), and Chandler Kemp (12).
OBU will return to action on Monday night as they head to Bethany to take on Southern Nazarene. Tip-off from the Sawyer Center in scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
