SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer team closed out their first week of action with a draw against NAIA foe Oklahoma Wesleyan University Friday evening at the OBU Soccer Complex. After a back-and-forth battle in the first half, both the Eagles and the Bison put up a goal in the second half for a final score of 1-1.
Â
This was the first matchup between the Bison and the Eagles as both programs have seen major success in recent years. The Bison have made it to three-straight Great American Conference championship matches, including a victory in 2018. The Eagles started their season 8-0 and are coming off a 2019 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championship.
Â
OBU's offense tested the Eagles goalkeeper, putting up 16 shots with nine of them being on goal.
Hannah Evans finally broke through for the Bison in the final three minutes when she knocked in a shot off the outstretched arms of Reagan Wilmon. Evans finished the game with four total shots.
Â
Emily Griffith got the assist on Evan's goal, her first of the season.
Tori Kitchel delivered in her first outing of the season posting three shots on goal.
Â
The Bison will conclude their three game home stand on Tuesday, Feb. 16, when OBU welcomes in Southwestern Christian. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
