MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's tennis teams fell to Northwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon with both squads dropping 6-1 contests at the Frank Grube Tennis Courts.
The Bison women struggled in doubles competition despite a great effort in No. 1 doubles from
Jenna Noel and
Vera Anagrova, falling just short at 6-4.
Noel took that great play to No. 2 singles, where she defeated Tessa Kwakenaak in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.Â
Lin Xin Tan played well at No. 1 singles, falling short to Vera Alenichevva in a tremendous three-set match, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9).
On the men's side, the Bison took the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and 2.
Aaron Brewer and
Kaey-Den Tan led the top court, earning a 6-4 victory over Andrea Zamurri and Franco Oliva, while
Rhett Rollins and
Matthew Ford earned a 6-4 win over Fillippo Piranomontae and Fabien Calloud at No. 2 doubles.
The Bison battled hard in singles to keep that lead as three matches went to three sets, but ultimately could not muster a win in singles and eventually fell. Tan dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles to Calloud, while Rollins fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to Piranomonte.Â
Christian Siegle dropped his match to Martin Sanchez in No. 5 singles, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6).
The Bison women will return to action next as they head to Tahlequah on Thursday, March 4, to face off against Northeastern State at 2 p.m.
