Tennis Falls on the Road to Northwest Missouri State

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's tennis teams fell to Northwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon with both squads dropping 6-1 contests at the Frank Grube Tennis Courts.

The Bison women struggled in doubles competition despite a great effort in No. 1 doubles from Jenna Noel and Vera Anagrova, falling just short at 6-4.

Noel took that great play to No. 2 singles, where she defeated Tessa Kwakenaak in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Lin Xin Tan played well at No. 1 singles, falling short to Vera Alenichevva in a tremendous three-set match, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9).

On the men's side, the Bison took the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and 2. Aaron Brewer and Kaey-Den Tan led the top court, earning a 6-4 victory over Andrea Zamurri and Franco Oliva, while Rhett Rollins and Matthew Ford earned a 6-4 win over Fillippo Piranomontae and Fabien Calloud at No. 2 doubles.

The Bison battled hard in singles to keep that lead as three matches went to three sets, but ultimately could not muster a win in singles and eventually fell. Tan dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles to Calloud, while Rollins fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to Piranomonte.

Christian Siegle dropped his match to Martin Sanchez in No. 5 singles, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6).

The Bison women will return to action next as they head to Tahlequah on Thursday, March 4, to face off against Northeastern State at 2 p.m.
